Bercovici talks ASU visit
"This was the first time I got the full experience because it was an official visit," Bercovici said. "I got to eat with the coaches and really get to talk to all of them. I really got an in-depth look at all the things the school has to offer, talked to the strength and conditioning coaches, I talked to coach Erickson and coach Mazzone a lot. I really felt like part of the team and because I'm coming out here in January I feel like I'm almost there. "The one thing that really impressed me on the visit is the connection I'm making with coach Mazzone. I spent a lot of time with him, and he is going to come out to one of our playoffs games. He really is almost like a father figure to me. Whether I'm talking with him about football or other things I just have a great time hanging out with him." The quarterback was hosted by Arizona State tight end Chris Coyle, who's family are good friends with the Bercovici's. Coyle also hosted his former high school teammate defensive end Dillon van der Val and naturally both Coyle and Bercovici have been trying to convince van der Val to join the ranks of the maroon and gold. "I've known Dillon pretty much my entire life," Bercovici noted. "All three of us were together the whole weekend. We couldn't stop talking about how we are going to live together in college. He came close to committing on the trip and he just wants to go over all the pros and cons. The ASU players love his size and you can tell his potential just by watching him play. He's a gamer and I'm really working hard to get him here because I think he'll be a great addition to this recruiting class." Another notable visitor to Tempe this past weekend was Corona (Calif.) Centennial QB Michael Eubank, who actually got an offer from ASU during his visit. The Huskies' signal caller said that he is considering ASU even though Bercovici is already committed and the Sun Devil pledge stated that Eubank's recruitment isn't affecting his commitment status. "One thing about Michael is that I have been around him for two years now," Bercovici said, "he's a great guy and easy to talk to. So even though it's competitive between us we are pretty good friends and I did talk to him over the weekend. He's a different type of quarterback than me and I know that. He's more athletic and runs with the ball a lot. "My feeling is that I don't plan to go to a Pac-10 school and have a quarterback spot handed to me, whether there are two quarterbacks in my class or I'm fighting with a sophomore or a junior. I have to work hard for whatever I get. So I respect Eubank as a quarterback and if he comes to ASU that will be great. I'm a strong commitment to Arizona State. "Coach Erickson talked to me about (Eubank) and said how they like his athleticism and how they want to use him and that was cool. Coach Mazzone told me how I am his guy and was his first quarterback recruit at Arizona State and that he is really excited about me. He also said that coming in the spring I will have an advantage over players who arrive here in the summer." The Toreadors are 5-3 after last Friday's 56-8 rout of Birmingham. In that contest Bercovici completed 11 of 15 passes for 323 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. On the season the Toreadors' signal caller has completed 147 out of 242 passes for 2,226 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. "I already broke the school's passing record twice," Bercovici commented, "I think I'm leading the state in passing yards and I have a passer rating of 110. I throw the ball 60 times a game so my completion percentage is around 60 percent. We are having a real fun time on offense and averaging close to 40 points a game. I really have to give credit to our receivers because they are having a great year. "My goal is to be a good decision maker and that's why I have been successful this year."
