Eason talks ASU pledge

Pahokee (Fla.) athlete Joe Eason indicated to Devils Digest earlier in the week that if offered by Arizona State on his official visit this weekend he will pledge to the Sun Devils. That script played out to perfection Friday morning, making Eason the newest member of ASU's 2011 recruiting class. We caught up with Eason after his visit to talk about his decision.

"Everything on the visit went very well and I knew it was going to be a great visit," said the 5-11 170 Joe Eason. "I was not surprised by anything I saw because it was exactly like I expected. I had a great host in Anthony Jones and had a cool time meeting him and the rest of the players. I really liked the weight room and the stadium. The campus was really nice. I was very impressed how everything was so organized there helping you become a good player and a good student.

"You can tell this is program getting ready for a big year because the players are working very hard."

Eason who was also offered by Buffalo, Florida International and Western Michigan is being recruited as a cornerback which is a position he played for his Blue Devil team as well as quarterback. He admitted that his experience as a signal caller should serve him well playing in the defensive backfield.

"The (ASU) coaches really like how fast and athletic I am and that I have good hips," said Eason who reported a 40-time of 4.5. "They like how I am aggressive at the line and can jam the wide receiver.

"They have a lot of good corners but the coach said that if I come in the summer ready to work hard that I will have a chance to play as a freshman. I like how their defense is very aggressive and makes a lot of plays. Number 7 (Vontaze Burfict) is a very good player and is someone that can help everyone around him to be a great player."

Eason, who was an honorable mention selection on the Palm Beach Post Small Schools All-Area team said that he was flying back home with a letter of intent in his hand for his mother to sign and mail back to the Sun Devils in the next few days.
