Jones has been the coach at SMU for the last four years and has compiled a 23-28 record during his tenure, but has done an admirable job rebuilding the program. The Mustangs are currently 7-5 and should learn their bowl game fate tomorrow and have been to bowl games in the last two seasons as well after going 1-11 in Jones’ first year.
Jones, 58, had a very successful nine-year run at Hawaii where he was 76-41 highlighted by a 2007 mark of 12-1 and a Sugar Bowl appearance. Jones was also a head coach in the NFL four years with the Atlanta Falcons and San Diego Chargers and posted a 22-36 record.
It is unclear if Jones is the front runner for ASU’s vacant head coaching job, but at the very least he is receiving serious consideration as we speak from the Sun Devils.
