“I’m feeling very happy,” Brown said. “I was very surprised that Arizona State offered me this soon. The coaches said that like my offensive game and my ability to score. They like me at the slot and said that I reminded them of Jamal Miles. He’s one of the players I followed at Arizona State so it’s a great compliment.
“I've liked Arizona State since I was in middle school and I always wanted to come and play here.”
The 5-11 190 Nick Brown played quarterback for the 10-3 Gophers who lost in the semifinals of the state’s 2011 Division IV playoffs. He passed for 872 yards and 4 TDs, and rushed for 1,629 yards and 27 TDs. As a defensive back he collected 40 tackles and 1 INT.
“My speed is one of my strongest points,” Brown said of his skills. “I ran a 4.52 almost two years ago so I’m sure I can run faster now. I’m elusive too and I have good hands. I want to work on my explosiveness and power.”
Even though Florence is located less than 60 miles from Tempe, this small Arizona town hasn’t seen very many of its football players don the maroon and gold throughout the years. Brown knows that his decision to play for the Sun Devils will be a great source of pride to his community.
“I’m very honored,” Brown admitted. “We had another player from here go to Colorado so we have some Colorado fans here but now we’ll have a lot of ASU fans here.
“Colorado was recruiting me too and they said they might offer me. But even if I have other offers, I want to stay here.”
