Jefferson commits following ASU visit

Early in this recruiting cycle, the Arizona State staff has been able to make serious progress with wide receiver Ellis Jefferson. Those efforts came to fruition today when the 2013 Denton, Tex. product pledged today to the Sun Devils following his unofficial visit.

"I just got done with my visit and I committed," said Jefferson. "There were a lot of things I liked about the visit. I think the weather is great. I like the stadium and how they are going to renovate it. I liked meeting with the coaching staff and the players here. Everything was really good and I just love it out here.

"My mother was on the visit with me and that was good that she was there. She loved the academic part of the visit. She's 100 percent about it."

In an interview to Devils Digest last month, Jefferson had placed Arizona State in his top three along with Michigan State and Colorado (schools that the wide receiver said he still could visit), and said at the time that he didn't know whether he will commit before the season started or not. That notion however, did change over the last couple of weeks.

"I knew that I wanted to commit before the season started," Jefferson said. "I really liked Arizona State when I got here but I was going to wait to commit before I left."

Jefferson, who is being recruited by offensive coordinator Mike Norvell, spent a lot of time talking to him and Head Coach Todd Graham about his role with the Sun Devil offense.

"The offense they run is similar to the offense I run in now high school," Jefferson said. "I'm a physical receiver that is also fast (Jefferson in a previous interview reported a 40-time of 4.6 seconds). I will be able to make big plays downfield with this offense.

"These players work very hard in practice and I'm a hard worker too."

In his junior year at Guyer High School the 6-4 200-pound Ellis Jefferson hauled in 38 catches for 676 yards. The wide receiver marks ASU's sixth verbal commitment of the 2013 class. Recommended Stories
