LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- USC Coach Lane Kiffin confirmed Sunday via phone conference with local reporters that senior quarterback Matt Barkley will not play Saturday when the Trojans host No. 1 Notre Dame.
Kiffin says Barkley suffered an AC sprain in his right shoulder when he was sacked by UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr with just under three minutes to go in Saturday's 38-28 loss to the Bruins.
"This is not the way we pictured this team or season going and I feel really bad for him and his family," Kiffin said.
Redshirt freshman Max Wittek will start against Notre Dame.
It is yet to be determined if Barkley will be available to play in a bowl game. However, if this is any indication, the only injuries Kiffin has announced this year have all been season ending.
