Lineman looking at Arizona

Defensive tackle Ainuu Taua is one of the best juniors in the west. Read on for his thoughts on his recruitment, when he will decide, and more.

Ainuu Taua plays with strength and power uncommon for a junior in high school. The 6-foot-1, 270-pound defensive tackle from Lompoc (Calif.) had an up and down season, but will still have plenty of options at the next level.

"The season went alright," Taua said. "It was disappointing because I got hurt, which set me back some, but I've gotten better.

"I just want to be able to go all-out without having to worry about anything. Even with all that, I'm getting more communications from coaches in the last few months, but it's still kind of early."

Although Taua is early in his recruitment, he admits that he is favoring a local school.

"UCLA is the school that sticks out the most right now," Taua said. "I've heard from other schools like Arizona, which has offered along with Washington, but right now UCLA is the school that stands out the most. There are a lot of good things going on there, so I want to find out more."

Taua is already being heavily recruited, but is working on a variety of skills during the offseason.

"My main goal is to work on my pass rush," Taua said. "I've gone to some camps where I got some pretty good tips and I've tried to build on those. I've also worked on my technique with my family who know about football.

"Playing with proper leverage and foot placement isn't as important for high school, but it will be very important in college where everyone is bigger."

Taua would like to pick a school before the start of his senior season.

"The plan right now is to decide around the start of spring ball," Taua said. "That way I could just focus on the season.

"If I'm not ready by then, Ill hold off, but that is the time frame right now." Recommended Stories
