Garden City (NY) Nassau Community College offensive lineman Chad Mavety has seen his recruitment blow up in recent weeks. He added offers from Kansas State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma all within the last week. It didn't end there as Alabama pulled the trigger as well.
"I got the offer today," Mavety said. "I got it from Coach (Mario) Cristobal. He said they're recruiting four players (at his position) and I'm one of the four. One of the four best in the country that they're recruiting. He offered me and wants me to be a Crimson Tide."
When Alabama comes calling, you listen. It definitely got Mavety's attention, as playing for a championship contender is very important to him.
"I was excited," Mavety admitted. "I think it's every kid's dream. Yeah it definitely puts them at the top of my list. No one is really number one right now, but they're up there with a good group.
"Alabama, I mean it's the best program in the country. Back to back national championship winner. I liked talking to the coach. He told me I could play right away. Obviously it's Alabama so I'd have to come in and compete. I'm confident in myself that I can play there."
The added attention in recent days has meant a lot to Mavety. Despite the offers from some of college football's elite, he knows he has to continue to work on his game.
"It's really humbling," the 6-foot-6 offensive lineman explained. "It's an honor. Definitely an honor. To be offered by some of the best schools in the country. It's an honor. I'm just going to keep working hard this season and beyond. I want to really show that I'm one of the best in the country. That's my goal."
The conversation with Cristobal included discussing a visit. The talented lineman plans to take the trip to Tuscaloosa sooner rather than later.
"Yeah, I'm definitely going to get that done in the spring," Mavety said. "I'll have to get up there and see how things are. See what happens. We don't have a set date yet, but I hope to get that done this week."
Mavety added that he is still taking his time with his recruitment, and won't be deciding anytime soon.
