Scott commits to Sun Devils

In today’s unpredictable world of college recruiting it’s rare that a prospect would commit to the school of his choice without visiting it first. Sure enough, that is exactly what DeAndre Scott did, when he gave his pledge to the Sun Devils. It was a decision that was made easy thanks to his childhood friend from Philadelphia, and current ASU wide receiver Jaelen Strong.

“I only visited the city when I was 11 years old,” Scott recalled. “I saw the stadium but didn’t walk around there or anything like that. But I know Jaelen from Philadelphia and he is someone that I look up to. He would make sure that me and my friends would be on the right path and not get into trouble. Some of my friends see what he’s doing out there (at ASU) and if they get offers they will come there too.

“He told me a lot about the school, and how much the coaches and players care about you and that if they have you have a personal problem they will have your back. They really care about you as a person. You’re not going to be alone out there. It’s also a good school to come and get your education at.

“I actually called up Coach Ball on Saturday and I announced it today. I planned to commit early and get it over with. Once the coaching staff told me that they were going to be behind me I knew this is where I was going to go.”

The 5-8 180-pound DeAndre Scott, who plays both strong safety and running back, as well a kick and punt returner for Philadelphia’s Imhotep Institute cited a favorable depth chart as one of the biggest reasons for his decision, and the defensive scheme that Arizona State runs was another significant factor in his pledge.

“I haven’t missed a game yet,” Scott declared. “I’m more of a hitter than a cover player and I love how they fly to the ball and are physical. I love to hit and that is what I like about Arizona State because you can tell (on T.V.) that they teach you how to tackle. They teach proper technique and you can tell they know what they’re doing.

“That’s why I see myself playing there on the field. I’m not scared to deliver a hit. I love football with a passion and I put all my time into it. Football is also a way to stay out of trouble. ”

Scott plans to stick to his original schedule and visit Tempe on January 24th. He already visited Nebraska, the school that was ASU’s main competition for his services and has no plans to visit any other schools. He reported offers from Georgia Tech, Miami, Penn State, and Pittsburgh among others.
