Simpson Represents State well in the B2G

WR T.J. Simpson

Fresh off a fine performance at the B2G Elite Football Program, the Peoria (Ariz.) wide receiver talked to Devils Digest about his experiences in the program this past weekend, as well as his recruiting with the maroon and gold.

T.J. Simpson started receiving scholarship several weeks ago and currently has nine offers, including Arizona State. The 6-2 175 wideout grew up with Sun Devils' star Keegan Herring, and generally likes the hometown school. "Recruiting with Arizona State is going good," he said. "I think that after they offered me, I got a lot of exposure and a lot of schools have been looking at me. I really like the Sun Devils. I like the program and facilities. It would be nice playing in front of my family and friends."

Simpson caught 29 passes for 749 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. "I need to get bigger and do a better job getting off the bump," he remarked. "I'm strong in my route running and my acceleration on my cuts. I also want to improve my catching."

Last weekend Simpson was one of the best receivers in the B2G Elite Football Program, and was able to stand out among an impressive group of wideouts that included Reggie Dunn, Zion Babb and Russell Carr. "It was a good experience for me," recalled Simpson. "It was good competing with a lot good players from California, and I had to step up as being one of the only players from Arizona there. I learned a lot at camp and it was overall a good experience."

The Peoria standout said that ASU, along with Oregon, Oregon State. UTEP and Hawaii make up his top five choices. He's being recruited locally by ASU's defensive line coach Grady Stretz, and his future visit plans will include the Sun Devils. "ASU and Oregon State will be schools that for sure will get an official visit," he stated. "I will visit UTEP unofficially. I don't know when I'll make my decision, but I think it will be early. To tell you the truth, I really don't know."

Simpson caries a 2.8 GPA and is still awaiting his SAT score.
