Devils Peak the Interest of Hawaii Def. End

When it comes to powerhouse high school programs in Hawaii, St. Louis School is certainly on the short list, if not at the very top of it. Thus, it wasn't just his 6-7 235 frame that got Scott Smith noticed by many Pac-10 schools thus far. The Sun Devils have recently joined his list of suitors, which the defensive end told Devils Digest was good news.

"Arizona State has been recruiting me for the past week," said Scott Smith. "They haven't offered me yet. They said they wanted to see some film, so I sent them stuff to look at. I have a lot of family that live there. If they offer me I'm gonna take a trip there because I like the state a lot. I would love to visit the campus."

So far the defensive end has visited Arizona and Cal. "I'm going to Washington this week, and I'm gonna visit Oregon next week," he noted. "I plan to take a fifth visit and it's probably gonna be to Arizona State." He mentioned Oregon State, Boise State and San Diego State as other schools who are pursuing him. He added that he has no desire to stay close to home and play for Hawaii.

His 6-7 235 dimensions help him excel at basketball where he plays center for the Crusaders. However, he has certainly made his mark on the gridiron in 2006 where he collected 14 sacks and had one interception for a touchdown. "I'm all over the field, making plays," he described his skills. "I have a good nose for the ball. I can always get better on my technique, getting faster (runs a 4.8) and stronger. I'm definitely gonna put on some weight before I go to college."

St. Louis squad had a spectacular 2006 campaign. They finished 11-1, with their lone defeat coming in the state championship game against Kahuko in the last 20 seconds, losing 7-6. Smith has a 3.0 GPA and an SAT score of 1000.
