It's a banner year in the state of Washington for offensive lineman, but that doesn't mean the Husky…
Recruitment Picking Up for Colorado OL
ASU came by Overland on Wednesday of last week to offer Andrew Sampson. "When they came by the school I happened not to be there, and I heard from the coaches that they offered me," said Sampson. "I really haven't talked much to Arizona State. I filled out a questionnaire with them a while back and got some mail from them." "I heard a lot about Arizona State, and their new head coach is obviously very successful winning college championships," Sampson continued. "I'm definitely planning to unofficially visit them in the summer, but I don't know when I will do that. I have to figure out my summer plans. Things (i.e. recruiting matters) are hitting me now pretty fast and I'm just taking everything in right now." Washington and Colorado State extended offers before ASU did, and schools such as Kansas, Michigan, Notre Dame and UCLA have been showing interest. "I don't mind going away from home to college," noted Sampson. "I'm just looking for a college that's in a good area. I want to go to a good program where I get along with their coaching staff. The school has to have my major (exercise science)…I‘m keeping my options open and looking at anybody and everybody." Sampson finished his junior campaign being selected 2nd team all-state, and all-conference. "We run the Veer Offense (aka the triple option) so I've never ever been thought how to pass block," He explained with a smile. "I definitely need to focus on my speed and footwork but I'm pretty strong and have good leverage." True to his beloved Denver Broncos he admires their former offensive lineman Mark Schlereth and current center Tom Nalen. The lineman is planning to attend a Nike Camp in Colorado, as well as a University of Colorado team camp. The lineman doesn't have a specific time period for a decision, but knows that he won't pledge to a program before he accomplishes one thing. "I want to at least visit all the schools that have offered me and compare them to each other," he stated. "It doesn't matter to me if I'm visiting the school officially or unofficially. If I went somewhere and liked what I saw, I could make a decision. But I could also see myself waiting for the official visits in the fall." Sampson carries a 3.8 GPA, and is awaiting his ACT score and will take the SAT this weekend.
