JC Tight End to Visit Sun Devils

JC Tight End to Visit Sun Devils

College of the Sequoias tight end Maurice Graham played in only six games in 2007. Nonetheless, it hasn't stopped many schools from offering him a scholarship. The mid-year transfer will start a hectic schedule of visits in the month of December, with Tempe being his first destination. Could it be his ultimate destination? Devils Digest sat down and talked to Graham about his recruitment by ASU.

"Arizona State offered me about two moths ago, right after they started recruiting me," said the 6-5 285 Maurice Graham. "Coach Christian is recruiting me from there. Arizona State is ranked high; and I like their offense and how they throw to the tight end down the field. I know it's a really good program, and I think I'm considering them more than any other program out there recruiting me."

Oregon, Michigan State, San Diego State, Marshall have all offered scholarships, and Graham mentioned that Florida State is a school that has recently entered the mix, although hasn't offered yet.

In six games Graham has tallied 193 yards on 13 catches and scored a pair of touchdowns for the Giants located in Visalia (Calif.). An ankle injury has sidelined his after six games, yet he's suppose to be 100% healthy for spring practice in the Division I school he eventually chooses.

"I do a good job blocking and catching the ball," he said of his skills. "People underestimate me because of my size, and think I can't move or catch. But I'm pretty quick, I run a 4.6 and I have good hands."

As mentioned the Sun Devils will mark the tight end's first official recruiting visit, as Graham will trip to Tempe during the Arizona game. With a mid-year Letter of Intent signing day scheduled on December 19th, time is of the essence for him to make a decision. "I want to take more visits and weigh my options out," he said, "But you never know (laughs). I'm gonna visit Michigan State on the 8th, and after that I got San Diego State on the 15th. I'm gonna visit Oregon sometime in between those two visits. I'm not sure yet about visiting Marshall – they kind of been on the back burner."

Graham attended Fresno's Washington Union High School, and went to Fresno State after his prep career was over. He was a Prop 48 signee with the Bulldogs, and after redshirting there decided to go the JC route. After he gets his AA degree in December, the tight end will be a ‘two for two' player in terms of eligibility.

For such a unique role as tight end, a prospect in that position naturally looks for playing time and being part of the offense. "I want to go to a program where the tight end is a part of the passing game," he explained. "I know that most of the time I'll be blocking, but I want to be involved in the passing game too. I only have two years to play and I want to make sure that they don't go to waste."
