Erickson Wednesday Quotes

Posted Mar 27, 2008

ASU Head Coach Dennis Erickson addressed the media concerning special teams, spring practice in general and other team issues.

On his thoughts about how coaches approach spring practice

“It’s the most fun for coaches because you don’t have to play anybody. So all the boosters, all the guys in the Internet think you’re a great guy because you’re undefeated. You can’t lose the spring game.”

On the status of Nate Kimbrough who was injured on Tuesday and didn’t practice the next day

“He nicked his hamstring, so he’ll probably be out this week. Hopefully he’ll be back next week.”

On whether he has some players in mind that will try out at long snapper

“Yeah, we have guys that are there. Travis Goethel snapped pretty good, Mike Nixon, Tom Ohmart who’s a walk-on and is snapping pretty darn good for us. We’re gonna work field goals, PAT some tomorrow (Thursday)…not because of Thomas (Weber) but because we have a new snapper and a new holder and that’s critical. We need to find out who our holder is and that might be bigger than people think.”

On who are the candidates right now at holder

Chris McGaha – he has great hands. Danny Sullivan – he did that last year, and probably our third quarterback Stangel or Szakacsy.”

Erickson added that he would like the snapper and the holder roles to be established by the end of spring, but the punting duties may not be established until the fall.

On why Rodney Glass isn’t at practice

“Rodney is dismissed right now.” Erickson added that there’s a chance he could be back on the team, and that the dismissal was due to violation of team rules and academics.
