Thursday’s Post-Practice Quotes

ASU’s Head Coach Dennis Erickson addressed the media following today’s practice.

On whether the format for this week’s scrimmage will be the same as last week’s

“Pretty much the same. I think we’re gonna spread our punting out. We did five in a row. I think we’re gonna spread it out through the scrimmage. We got some guys got worn out before it (the scrimmage) even started. Travis (Goethel) was (complaining). We punted five times and he’s on every punt cover team and then he had the scrimmage.”

Erickson added the number of snaps the first, second and third team will get will be the same as last Saturday.

On whether the special teams’ starting roles have been established

“Sully (Danny Sullivan) will be our holder. Tom Ohmart will be our snapper right now – he’s by far the best. Punting wise Thomas Weber will be our punter going into fall camp. We’ve got a couple of junior college guys walking on – we’ll see how they are in the fall. That’s where we are at right now.”

On the fight that broke out in practice between Jonathan English and Shaun Lauvao

“Those guys couldn’t hurt each other. Occasionally that bothers me. It wasn’t real vicious. I wish it would be a little more vicious. I thought about making them run afterwards, but give me a fight before I do that. It was like it was almost planned, like ‘we gotta do something.’ That’s about how exciting it was for me. I almost fell asleep.”

On the various team injuries

“(Dane) Guthrie with the shoulder and Jonathan Clark were out. I assume that they will be able to go Saturday. Luis Vasquez has the (sprained) ankle. I expect him to be back Saturday. Jarrell Holman – supposedly will be back too. David Smith (concussion) couldn’t go. He should be ready Saturday.”
