Several new faces had an impact on defense against the Lumberjacks.
Sophomore safety Max Tabach and freshman linebacker Brandon Magee each
tallied five tackles, a mark that tied three others for the second most
stops on the evening.
Redshirt freshman James Brooks notched four assisted stops, including one tackle for a loss. Magee's Corona Centennial (Calif.) teammate, Shelly Lyons, registered three tackles at linebacker as well.
Junior college transfers cornerbacks Terrell Carr and Pierre Singfield have been involved
in a fierce competition for the open spot opposite sophomore Omar Bolden. Singfield earned the start against NAU and collected a pair of
solo tackles and one pass break up while Carr finished with three stops.
Fellow defensive backs Jarrell Holman and Josh Jordan combined for three
tackles.
Adding depth in the defensive trenches were Lawrence Guy and Spencer Gasu. The freshman Guy had three stops and JC transfer Gasu added a solo tackle off the bench.
True freshman running back Ryan Bass netted 6 yards on two carries to
pace the offensive newcomers.
Other newcomers that participated in Saturday's action include Adam Tello, Thomas Ohmart, Gerrell Robinson, Tom Njunge, Clint Floyd, Oliver Aaron, Brent Good, Stanley Malamala, T.J. Simpson, and Dan Knapp.
