Terell Carr's Eight Stops Paced ASU Versus USC

Posted Oct 13, 2008

Arizona State traveled to the Golden State for a second consecutive week, this time taking on conference heavyweight USC in Los Angeles. It was a rough afternoon for the Sun Devils as they were shut out by the Trojans, 28-0. Despite the gray cloud that this four-game losing streak has cast over the last month, several newcomers for ASU continue to shine.

USC quarterback Mark Sanchez threw Terell Carr's way several times throughout the game. As a result, the junior college transfer cornerback led the defense with eight tackles, six of which were solo stops. Carr has been competing with former starter Pierre Singfield, who finished with three solo tackles, for the starting spot opposite Omar Bolden.

Jarrell Holman collected another pair of tackles for the secondary. Safety Clint Floyd continues to excel as a special teams demon as he added another stop to his season total of seven.

Freshman linebacker Shelly Lyons was in on several plays, collecting three tackles. Oliver Aaron, a speedy redshirt freshman, notched his first tackle of the season.

Making his second start as a true freshman, Lawrence Guy notched a solo stop at defensive tackle. Guy didn't fill the stat sheet as much as he did in the last two contests but he continues to impress in the trenches. Defensive ends Jamaar Jarrett and James Brooks each added a tackle.

In his first action in nearly a month, running back Ryan Bass gained 22 yards on five carries. Tight end Dan Knapp caught one pass for an 8-yard gain in the first half before injuring his knee, and unfortunately missing the rest of the season due to a tore ACL.

Other game participants include Gerrell Robinson, Stanley Malamala, Colin Parker, Adam Tello, Zach Schlink, Bo Moos, Thomas Ohmart, Jamarr Robinson, Brent Good, and T.J. Simpson.
