Halo Club Returns with “Kid Count”

Posted Nov 26, 2008

Last season, the Halo Club made its debut as a way to support Coach Herb Sendek and the men’s basketball team by sending underprivileged kids to games at Wells Fargo Arena. The program makes a return this year with a new way to track donor’s impact – the Kid Count.

Last year, the Halo Club helped fill Wells Fargo Arena for men’s basketball games by providing an opportunity for donors to provide tickets for kids that would otherwise not be able afford to attend games themselves. The Halo Club is aligned with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, and YMCA organizations in the Phoenix area and the donated tickets are distributed to the kids via these charitable organizations.

All of this was made possible by donations from Sun Devil Club members, season ticket holders, and even people that are not affiliated with the university but felt the Halo Club was a great way to make an impact in their community. For each $100 donation to the Sun Devil Club, the ASU Athletic Department donates a season ticket to one of the charitable organizations described above for use by the kids they have relationships with.

Because each donation provides a season ticket, each $100 donation impacts up to 15 kids per season. Consequently, the Halo Club will measure the program’s impact via a “Kids Count” that tracks the number of kids that can attend Sun Devil home games because of the generosity of the Halo Club’s donors.

Persons interested in becoming a donor to the Halo Club can visit the program’s website at www.sundevilhaloclub.com to learn more and to access the online donations page on the Sun Devil Club’s website. An additional benefit of donating to the Halo Club program is that donors will become members of the Sun Devil Club and will receive all of the benefits of membership in that organization (e.g. receiving the Maroon & Gold Illustrated magazine each month).

The program is a great way for out of town alums to support what Herb Sendek is building at Wells Fargo Arena or to add to your impact at home games by adding the voices of some screaming kids to the home court advantage.
