Vontaze Burfict, the freshman linebacker from Corona (Calif.) Centennial has been cleared by the NCAA, the clearance coming Friday.

That means Burfict is eligible to play Saturday in the season opener for Arizona State against Idaho State.

The 6-3 Burfict was a Signing Day choice with the Sun Devils and came in ranked as the #1 middle linebacker in the country by Scout.com.

He's will be backing up Gerald Munns come Saturday, at middle linebacker.

Burfict had a stellar senior season, being invited to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and being named First Team All-State and the Southern California Defensive Player of the Year by Scout.com's California HS site, GoldenStatePreps.com, after helping lead Centennial to the California State D-I title.
