Post-visit report: John Young

Loyola (Calif.) tight end John Young, ranked nationally 22nd in the 2010 class by, opened his official visit circuit at Arizona State this past weekend. Devils Digest talked to the tight end about his impressions of ASU.

"It was a fun visit," Young said, "very interesting. The game didn't go as they planned but they have a good team. I was very impressed by the facilities, the campus…everything was real nice.

"I like the camaraderie between the players and how easy going the coaches were."

Young was hosted by Arizona State cornerback Osahon Irabor.

The 6-4 250 John Young finished his junior season with 20 receptions for two touchdowns. He reported weight room marks of 280 pounds benching, and 405 squatting. He also reported a 26-inch vertical jump.

"I'm a player that gets off the line pretty quick," Young said of his skills. "So I get to my blocks real quick or can run a good route and catch the ball."

The tight end has reported in the past that UCLA is his top school, but claimed on Sunday that he won't make a decision before he visits the Bruins and the other school on his short list along with ASU – Florida State. "I'm going to visit UCLA sometime after the football season," Young noted. "I'll visit Florida State too but I don't know when, maybe during the season. I don't have a favorite school out there until I visit all three of them.

"I was impressed by ASU and now I have to compare the other two schools to that visit. I don't plan to make a decision before I visit all three schools"

Young mentioned that academics will play a big part in his decision. "I want to see how far I can go in the books as well as on the field," he explained. "I'm looking for a good coaching staff too and a good location. I want to go to a warm weather school." Recommended Stories
