Willie Talks ASU Pledge

Mike Willie was prepared to go through the recruiting process and following his December visit to Arizona State take additional visits next month. However, the more he talked to his family in recent days the more he realized that no school would suit his better than the Sun Devils. A few hours ago, the Cerritos wide receiver gave his verbal commitment to the maroon and gold.

"It feels good, like a new beginning," said the 6-3 215 Mike Willie. "When I sat down with my family, we saw that Arizona State was a really good school and they're just adding pieces to the puzzle. So I'm just a little piece over there.

"Arizona State is where I feel the most comfortable."

Willie spent a good portion of last week not too far from Tempe, in Chandler, as he was part of the Triumphant Sports JC All-American game Saturday. That event only enhanced his feelings towards the Sun Devils.

"I like it over here (in the East valley)," Willie told Devils Digest last week. "I can get used to it. I might just commit to A-State because I like it out here."

Washington, Arizona, and Kentucky were some of the schools that the wide receiver was considering and he was believed to also be favoring Cal who unlike those other schools didn't extend a scholarship offer.

In his sophomore year, the Sun Devil prospect paced the Falcons with 760 receiving yards, averaging 19.5 yards a catch. He also scored two touchdowns and was voted 2nd team All-Conference. The wide receiver reported a 40-yard time of 4.48.

"I think I fit in real nice with this (ASU) offense," Willie said. "I'm a playmaker and I can play any (wide receiver) position on the field. All you have to do is get the ball in my hands."

The wide receiver is scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2010, and will have three years to play two.
